HERO or Helping Everyone Realize Opportunities is a respite program that provides a break for caregivers to reenergize reconnect, while at the same time provides a enjoyable, learning environment for their loved one. Currently the HERO program has 2 distinct programs 1.) After school program in North Port and 2.)"We Belong" summer camp.
After school Program
The after-school program that helps provide the necessary relief for parents/caregivers to schedule personal time. HERO is a safe, supportive and supervised after-hours environment. The HERO program ranges in ages 4-18.
Your child’s time at HERO after school includes outdoor playground time, indoor play, homework/reading time, and snack. We also offer special seasonal art projects, cooking opportunities, and other activities to further enhance your child’s academic and personal growth.
How does it work?
Our after school program is in session during the average school year Mon. – Fri. (this has been adjusted due to the COVID-19 outbreak) and is located in the Loveland Center Suite at the North Port Family Services Center on Pan American rd. The program starts at 3 pm and ends at 6 pm; transportation to the program can be provided by the Loveland Center directly from one of the local schools. Pickup from the program is required by family members by 6 pm.
Parents can enroll their children one to five days per week on a monthly contract basis or students are always welcome to drop-in as needed (24-hour advance notice).
DROP-IN FEE: $15/HOUR (MINIMUM OF ONE-HOUR BILLED)

$50 fee due upon enrollment ($75 registration fee after October 15). The first month’s service is included in the October billing statement.
Holidays/Staff PROFESSIONAL DAYS
For children who are under contract, the program operates on a full-day basis during staff professional days. Our program offers field trips during most of these fulls days, the details of which are communicated ahead of time. Holidays will be detailed on the open/closure form for every calendar year and the program will not be in operation.
The after school program has direct oversight at all times by a Team Leader (on-site), and is typically scheduled at a 1 staff to 3 participant ratio.
All Loveland Center after school staff members are 18 years of age or over, have received both a local and level II background check. All staff members have receive training according to the requirements of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities and additional training as required by the Loveland Center.
A typical day will consist of:
2:30 – Pick up at schools
3 – 3:15arrival – snack and wind down time.
3:15 – 3:45 – Time to talk about the day, work on school work if required, and begin an activity.
3:45 – 5pm – Activity time (possibly offsite)
5 – 5:45 – Dinner – we encourage and support the participants to be an active part of making dinner.
